Entertainment weekly — I love their movie, TV show and book reviews. plus the writing’s really good. I also like their graphic design style. I get a lot of ideas from them for my articles and pictures on the blog, like the way they style their titles for articles and use colorful shapes. Whenever a new one comes in, I set it on a stack in the corner of my room, and before I know it the stack is 12 feet tall and about to fall over!

This month I’m loving on that coppery red blown-out eyeshadow Julianne Hough is sporting on the cover of Allure.

Dude, if I had her eyes, I’d be rockin’ that makeup every single day. I love the contrast of the coppery tones and her blue peepers.

A novel romance has some the most memorable fall campaign art I’ve seen considering that MAC amazing Felines. first of all, homeboy in the photo below looks like Khal Drogo. I wonder if that was on purpose…

Second, the whole idea just makes me smile. It’s cheesy, but still feminine and pretty. I mean, I get it, even though it’s been years considering that I’ve read a romance novel.

What we have here is very seductive makeup, but there’s also a softness to it that I like, especially around the eyes. There’s a lot of shimmer, and nothing too hard edged.

I may or may not have breathed a lusty sigh when I saw the new Fluidline Eye Pencils. I’m never without my pot of Blacktrack, and I love me some Fluidline in the pots, so I ’twas intrigued.

I used one of the shades yesterday, Black Brilliance, the basic black. It’s a pencil gel liner, which a lot of brands have, but these pencils have a very fine point. Finer than normal for products like these, and I think it makes them terrific for getting liner down between each lash at the base…because it seems like I spend half my day trying to get eyeliner between the roots of my lashes.

They’re highly pigmented and glide along the skin, but if you want to smudge them at all, you have to work quickly, because once they set, they don’t move. I wore Black Brilliance on my lash and water lines yesterday and had it on for about six hours before removing it, and it looked terrific the whole time…on my upper water lines and lash lines, that is.

It was a different story on my lower water lines. The color was still intense, but the coverage had broken up in places.

I will say that the formula didn’t irritate my eyes, though, which is something….

Regarding the electric amazing Eyeshadows in the release, maybe it’s because I’m coming off a Chanel new Moon high, but I’m very ecstatic about these. They have the same spongey, soft texture as the Chanel illusion D’Ombres, which I love.

I’ll be taking a closer look at them a little later, but for now, I see a lot of potential for quick eye looks using just a finger and one of these pots.

As for paws/claws, I’m still in summer nail mode, so I’m thinking brights, brights, brights! Fun, fun, fun! So at first I didn’t have any interest in the six studio nail Lacquers in the collection ($12 U.S./$14 CAD) because they seemed kind of dark and dreary.

Or so I thought. They may look a little dull in their bottles, but they absolutely look much brighter on my nails.

Not like neon bright or anything, but livelier.

Before Dawn, the green shade, is the one that moves me the most. It has elements of that baby poo polish Chanel did a few years ago for fall (Khaki Vert), but I think it’s prettier than that shade because it has a minor pearl, so it’s not completely flat. It has a lot more dimension.

I see it being my pedi polish this fall, and you know what goes well with green, don’t you?

How about hot pink lips?

OK, a lot more like a hot fuchsia. good Kisser is one of the six Lipsticks ($16 U.S./$18 CAD) in the release, but when you go to the counter, you’re only going to see five of them. yield to Love, the rosy shade, is an online exclusive.

Good Kisser — I love that name. The color reminds me of MAC Impassioned, except slightly bluer.

So, for the eye quads, there are three of them ($40 U.S./$48 CAD), and while none of them really make me want to tear off my corset, I’m still turned on by the color combinations. These are the kinds of palettes I like to use for smokey eyes because the colors lend themselves easily to gradients; the steps between the shades in each quad aren’t that extreme. The violet and pink tones in the A Passionate Quest Quad, for example, are a lot more like first cousins than third cousins twice removed.

I notice that the colors in the quads normally lean neutral and cool, too. Not a lot of warmth there, but I meant that’s not a big surprise, considering that they’re part of a fall collection.

In all of these face pics I’m wearing An Amorous adventure (more pics and articles to follow, BTW) and used it to do a sort of hazy, golden plummy brown eye look.

I was going to use A novel romance for my first foray into these new quads to explore Rising Passions, the khaki color (because khaki and I are like this), but I made a decision to save that one for later.

Same goes for A Passionate Quest, the third quad, which is all about purple. I have to be careful often with purples because some make my left eye water (just the left eye; it’s the weirdest thing), so I’m going to see what I can do with that quad in an upcoming post.

Kerastase Mousse Bouffante
First question I have: what’s a bouffante?

I looked it up.

According to wikipedia, it’s from the present participle of bouffer: “to puff, puff out.”

It’s where we also get the word, “bouffant.”

Second question I have: why bother with a hairdryer when mother Nature’s hairdryer, also known as the heatwave we’re having pretty much throughout California ideal now, works perfectly fine, and also happens to be completely free?

After showering this morning I worked Kerastase Mousse Bouffante into my damp, wavy hair, starting at the ends and making my way down to the roots.

Compared to other Kerastase hair styling products I’ve tried, this one smells pretty tame, which I like. There’s just a faint jasmine scent.

Designed to embiggen hair (I know that’s not a real word… I just really wanted to use it. ) and supply structure without weight, so it gives me the volume I crave. I’m using it get myself time before my next haircut in about three weeks (my mop has been pretty heavy and kind of flat).

I apply it to my hair when it’s damp, and you can either blow dry or air dry. considering that it’s been — to quote Nelly — hot in hurr, I’ve been air drying lately. I normally sit in my oven… I indicated “office” upstairs, and wait.

In a couple of hours, my waves look defined, with a lot a lot more volume. It’s a little a lot more structured look, and not as beachy or heavy as I get when I use my holy grail waves product, Kerastase Spray a Porter, but I like the results.

It’s as if Spray a porter put on her service suit and stepped into the corner office, LOL!

I haven’t tried blowing out my hair with Mousse Bouffante yet, but I’m pretty confident that I could get some killer volume overall because it’s so lightweight.

Kinda pricey at $36 a bottle…but if you’re a Kerastase fan, you might want to give it a whirl.

My signature makeup look?
A smokey something-or-other with a cat eye of some sort — some version of a smokey cat eye combination, typically with nude lips because they’re easy. Or, plain lids, big lashes and bright lips.

One of my etiquette pet peeves…
I cannot stand it when the person who uses the restroom before me doesn’t change the toilet paper, when there’s clearly not enough toilet paper for the next person. They’ll leave one square or an empty roll. Todella? You have to — the toilet paper’s gotta get changed! You’re already sitting on the pot, so you might as well change it. It takes like 2 seconds!

My secret charm weapons are…
Getting as much sleep as possible (if I could, I’d sleep nine hours per night) and drinking obscene amounts of water.

One or two things that are always in my fridge:
Some kind of stinky cheese (the stinkier the better) and half-eaten cans of cat food.

I will never care about…

I sure hope it doesn’t rain on Christmas, but it looks like it might.

That reminds me — when I was young, I was terrified of it raining on Christmas because my grandma once told me that when it rains on Christmas…Jesus is crying, and when you’re in the third grade, and you hear that, and it’s pouring outside, you’re like, “What did I do to make Jesus cry!?”

My friend Cindy’s birthday party yesterday was a lot of fun. I feel like we were just celebrating her thirtieth, but this was her fortieth, and it was carb city! We had spaghetti and meatballs and yummy grilled potatoes, some grilled cheeses. Se oli mahtavaa.

Her other friend, Grace, who’s kind of a jokester, got her a hot men & baby animals calendar, also known as “the gift that keeps on giving.”

This week, per my feline employer’s demands, we have to leave the premises so that he can hang out with his favorite petsitter, so we’re heading to my parents’ house in the east Bay, and then up to see my in-laws in Redding.
